Orthopaedic Injuries

Orthopaedic Injuries

Orthopaedic injuries refer to broken bones and tears or strains to the tendons, ligaments, cartilage and muscles that support the bones. If you have suffered a serious orthopaedic injury, symptoms may persist long after the injury has healed. There is also often an increased risk of developing early onset arthritis at the site of the injury.

Even if the injury heals quickly, the healing process may result in a major interruption to your life. Limbs and joints are typically immobilized in a cast during the weeks that are required for a fracture to unite. This can interfere with one’s ability to perform numerous everyday tasks. Assistance with hygiene, dressing, and feeding is often necessary.

There are a number of factors that may make the injury more costly and disruptive to your life, such as complex surgical intervention involving the insertion of hardware such as metal screws, nails, plates, and rods. Shoulder, hip, and knee replacements can also prolong recovery.
